New Delhi, December 20, 2025:
In a major boost for former Agniveers, the Union Home Ministry has increased their reservation quota in Border Security Force (BSF) constable recruitment from 10% to 50%. The decision, announced through an amendment to the BSF recruitment rules, aims to give greater priority to trained military personnel completing their tenure under the Agnipath scheme.
Under the revised policy, recruitment for the reserved posts will be carried out in the first phase directly by the BSF, which has been designated as the nodal force. Ex-Agniveers will continue to be exempted from physical efficiency tests, reflecting their prior military training, but they will still be required to qualify in the written examination.
The government has also provided age relaxations to ease their transition into the force. Candidates from the first batch of ex-Agniveers will be eligible for an age relaxation of up to five years, while subsequent batches will receive a three-year relaxation.
The move is seen as a significant step towards ensuring stable employment opportunities for Agniveers after their four-year service period, while also strengthening the BSF with experienced and disciplined personnel.
