The Maharashtra School Education Department signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) recently:
- First MoU: With Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR)
- Second MoU: With the non-profit organisation Navnirmiti
Both these partners are known for their work in improving science and maths education at school level. The MoUs focus on developing teaching materials, teacher training, and hands-on learning models for government-run and aided schools.
Why Focus on Maths and Science?
Maths and science form the backbone of analytical thinking. But in India, many students fear these subjects because of the way they are taught. Navnirmiti is an NGO that works mainly in maths education. Their approach is based on making maths logical, fun, and hands-on. Under the agreement, they will help design tools that break down complicated maths into simple, step-by-step learning modules. They will also conduct regular teacher training sessions across districts, especially in rural and tribal areas.
How This Will Help Teachers and Students
- Teachers will be trained in new teaching methods that encourage student participation
