Maharashtra Naval NCC Cadets Selected for All India Yachting Regatta 2025

The Selection and Training Camp for the forthcoming All India NCC Yachting Regatta 2025 concluded with resounding success on 6th September 2025, marking the completion of an intensive and inspiring program designed to test skill, stamina, and seamanship.

Over a span of ten days, from 28th August to 6th September, a total of 30 Naval NCC cadets from Maharashtra participated in rigorous training at Futala Lake, Nagpur. The camp featured a balanced blend of practical sailing sessions alongside theoretical instruction on tactics, safety protocols, and race discipline—ensuring holistic preparation for the prestigious national competition.

The Maharashtra NCC Directorate’s team selection and training were meticulously organized by NCC Group Headquarters, Nagpur, and conducted by the 4 Maharashtra Naval NCC Unit (MNU), Nagpur. Cdr Vaibhav Dabral, Commanding Officer, 4 MNU NCC, extended heartfelt gratitude to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, particularly the Health and Public Works divisions, for their unwavering support in facilitating the smooth conduct of the camp.

Conducted at the scenic Boat House, Futala Lake, the camp was guided by experienced Yachting Instructors, who ensured the highest standards of professional training and safety. Cadets underwent demanding trials both on water and land, showcasing their endurance, teamwork, and determination.

After a series of competitive assessments, six outstanding cadets were finally selected to represent Maharashtra at the All India Yachting Regatta 2025, to be held at Chilka Lake, Odisha. The proud cadets who will carry the state’s flag are:
• Cdt Vedant Vilas Shinde
• Cdt Manas Tandekar
• Cdt Tejas Makeshwar
• Cdt Kashmiri Kishor Kanaojia
• Cdt Harshada Shanware
• Ldg Cdt Khushi Bhatia

A group photograph was also taken to mark the occasion, featuring the six selected cadets along with Gp Capt Khushal Vyas, Group Commander, Nagpur Group NCC. The moment captured the pride and joy of the young sailors who will now carry Maharashtra’s hopes at the national regatta.

Notably, the selection of four cadets from Nagpur city has generated immense excitement among Vidarbha’s youth, inspiring them to embrace this adventurous naval sport and consider joining 4 MNU NCC—a platform that nurtures young talent and transforms it into national pride.

On the first day of his three-day administrative visit, the Major General unveiled a transformative roadmap for the youth and the future of the NCC.

Major General Tyagi announced that a state-of-the-art ‘Drone Training Academy’ is being established in Nagpur. This academy will be unique as it focuses on creating ‘Master Drone Trainers’—cadets and instructors who will go on to train others across various divisions in India. Recognizing the digital age’s challenges, he also highlighted a dedicated ‘Cyber Awareness’ initiative and tech-based skilling, ensuring that cadets are not just physically fit but technologically superior and ready for the future.

The Major General expressed immense pride in the dedication of Nagpur’s youth. He revealed that in just the past few months, 12 to 14 cadets from Nagpur alone have successfully cleared their boards to join the Armed Forces as officers. Whether through the Agniveer scheme, the Armed Forces, or the Maharashtra Police, NCC cadets are leading the way with the motto of ‘Nation First.’ He also noted that the training of civil staff, such as Girl Cadet Instructors (GCI) and Caretaker Officers (CTO) at the Officer Training Academy (OTA) in Kamthi, is playing a pivotal role in expanding the NCC’s reach

Meeting the Surge in Demand: 160 Institutions on Waiting List

The growing craze for the NCC among today’s youth is evident: currently, 160 schools and colleges in Nagpur are on the waiting list to start NCC units. To meet this demand, Major General Tyagi called upon the State Government for support in building a World-Class NCC Academy in Nagpur. He emphasized that the goal is not just to reach the milestone of 1.5 lakh cadets, but to reach the most remote areas of Maharashtra, transforming every student into a confident, resilient, and patriotic leader.

Empowering Daughters and Global Exposure

A significant highlight of the briefing was the rising strength of women in the corps, with the gender ratio now approaching 60:40. Major General Tyagi concluded by stating that the NCC is more than just a career path; it is a workshop that builds character, discipline, and the best version of a human being.
