Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood has laid the foundation stone for development projects worth Rs 5 crore in Janakpuri, reaffirming the Delhi government’s commitment to improving civic and educational infrastructure in the capital. The projects include the construction and renovation of key public facilities, road improvement, and school infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents. Speaking at the event, Atishi emphasised that the government’s focus is on ensuring that “every citizen, whether in a school or a neighbourhood, benefits from modern facilities and equal access to development.”
I chose to write about this because such initiatives show how state governments can strengthen communities through targeted infrastructure and education-related improvements. Delhi’s model of development has often been discussed nationally, especially in how it combines social welfare with tangible public works. Covering such local stories helps readers understand that progress isn’t only about large-scale national projects but also about the smaller, community-level efforts that improve daily living conditions and educational spaces. These developments in Janakpuri highlight how local investment can directly influence both learning environments and the surrounding neighbourhood.
Ashish Sood Inaugurates Rs 5-Crore Development Projects
The Education Minister, during her visit to Janakpuri, formally launched several projects under the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Education Department, collectively amounting to nearly Rs 5 crore. These projects aim to address infrastructure issues in schools and nearby residential areas, ensuring a better standard of civic amenities.
Ashish, while speaking to residents, said that the Delhi government is working on a long-term plan to create inclusive development that benefits students, teachers, and the larger community. She noted that education remains at the heart of all policy decisions, and infrastructure improvements are a part of making schools more vibrant and functional spaces for learning.
Focus on School Infrastructure and Community Facilities
The development package includes renovation of government school buildings, upgrading classrooms, repairing damaged walls and roofs, improving sanitation facilities, and ensuring proper water and power supply. Additionally, local roads and drainage systems around educational institutions will be upgraded to prevent flooding during rains and to make access to schools safer.
Apart from education-specific projects, the government has also approved several community development works in Janakpuri. These include:
- Road resurfacing and pavement repairs in residential colonies
- Streetlight installation for better safety in public areas
- Upgradation of drainage systems to reduce waterlogging
- Beautification projects, including green zones and parks for residents
Ashish Sood highlighted that such projects are part of the Delhi government’s ongoing mission to make every neighbourhood clean, safe, and accessible.
Commitment to Holistic Development
During the foundation ceremony, Ashish Sood mentioned that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government believes development must reach every doorstep. She stated that while education remains the top priority, equal attention is given to civic amenities because both are interlinked — good living conditions support better learning outcomes.
Also added that Delhi’s government schools have undergone remarkable transformation over the past few years, thanks to consistent investment and accountability. “A strong education system begins with strong infrastructure,” he said, noting that several schools in West Delhi have already benefitted from similar upgradation projects.
Empowering Local Communities
Local residents and representatives present at the event expressed gratitude for the government’s proactive approach. Many noted that infrastructure in several parts of Janakpuri had been in need of attention for years, and this initiative finally addressed those concerns.
The minister also assured that the government will closely monitor the progress of these projects to ensure timely completion. Officials from PWD and the Education Department have been directed to coordinate with residents and school administrators during the implementation process.
Part of Delhi’s Broader Development Vision
This Rs 5-crore initiative is part of a wider set of local development programmes being rolled out across Delhi. The AAP government has been investing in roads, school infrastructure, drainage systems, and healthcare facilities to make Delhi more liveable and citizen-friendly.
In recent months, similar projects have been inaugurated in South and East Delhi, focusing on public health centres, school renovations, and road improvement. The Janakpuri development works fit into this larger urban renewal strategy, blending educational improvement with civic betterment.
