President Droupadi Murmu addressed the graduating students at the 45th convocation ceremony of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad on Thursday. She urged the students to use their knowledge and skills not just for personal success, but to help shape the future of India.
Speaking to over 1,900 graduates, President Murmu said, “India needs bright young minds like you to solve big challenges and work for the betterment of society.” She highlighted the role of technology and innovation in solving issues like climate change, energy needs, and social inequality.
She encouraged students to think beyond personal goals and to work for the public good—that is, the well-being of the nation and its people. “Let your education not only bring you success but also bring positive change to the country,” she added.

President Murmu also praised IIT-ISM Dhanbad for its contributions to science and engineering, especially in the fields of mining, geology, and energy. She said that the institute’s achievements make it one of the top technical institutions in the country.
During the ceremony:
• More than 1,900 students received their degrees.
• 43 PhD scholars were awarded their doctorates.
• A special commemorative coin was released to mark the institute’s 100-year journey.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Jharkhand Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan also attended the event.
