Structure of the Physics Question Paper

Section B consists of 10 numerical value type questions, out of which candidates must attempt any five. Each numerical question carries 4 marks with no negative marking.

One of the early questions in the paper is based on resistivity and meter bridge experiments, where students must calculate the resistivity of a given wire using balance length and resistance values. This tests practical understanding of current electricity and experimental Physics.
Another question involves electric potential due to a point charge, where students calculate the potential difference between two points in the X–Y plane. This checks understanding of electric potential as a scalar quantity and its dependence on distance.
Mechanics and Momentum
The paper includes a question on conservation of momentum, where a moving body gains additional mass and students must find the final velocity. This is a direct application of momentum conservation and tests whether students can correctly identify the physical principle involved.
There is also a vector-based mechanics question involving the motion of an ant in the Y–Z plane, where position is given as a vector function of time. Students must find the magnitude and direction of velocity at a given instant, testing vector differentiation skills.

Magnetic Fields and Charged Particles
One conceptual question involves a proton moving with constant velocity through a region of space, asking which combinations of electric and magnetic fields are possible. This checks understanding of Lorentz force and conditions under which a charged particle remains undeflected.
Such questions are purely concept-based and reward strong fundamentals rather than calculations.
Properties of Matter
The paper also includes an assertion–reason type question on properties of matter, specifically viscosity of gases and surface tension of liquids. Students must judge the correctness of each statement, testing conceptual clarity rather than numerical ability.
This shows that JEE Main continues to include theory-based conceptual questions alongside numericals.
Nature and Difficulty Level of the Paper
Based on the questions visible in the PDF, the overall difficulty level of the Physics paper in Shift 1 is moderate. The questions are not overly lengthy, but they require careful reading and solid understanding of basic concepts.
