Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday honoured 71 teachers at a state-level function held in Anandpur Sahib, recognising their contribution to transforming the education system in Punjab. While addressing the gathering, CM Mann proudly announced that Punjab has secured the first rank in school education in India, surpassing Kerala — a milestone he credited to the “revolutionary reforms” introduced by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. He said teaching was not merely a job but a mission to build the nation’s future, and described teachers as “gardeners who nurture young minds with care and patience.”

CM Mann praised the awardees, calling them “the true nation builders.” He shared that as the son of a teacher himself, he personally understood the pride and satisfaction teachers feel when their students achieve success. He added, “A teacher’s contribution goes beyond classrooms. They shape personalities, build character, and create responsible citizens.”
Punjab Ranked No. 1 in School Education
During his speech, Bhagwant Mann highlighted that Punjab has achieved the top position in school education across India, moving ahead of Kerala — a state long known for its high literacy standards. He credited this success to the series of education reforms introduced by the AAP government since it came to power.
The state’s initiatives include:
- Upgrading schools into Schools of Eminence with modern facilities
- Introducing smart classrooms and digital learning tools
- Enhancing teacher training and recruitment processes
- Strengthening school infrastructure and sanitation facilities
- Promoting sports and co-curricular education in government schools
CM Mann said that these measures have restored public confidence in government schools and reduced dependency on private institutions.
118 Schools of Eminence Built in Punjab
One of the major highlights of the government’s education model is the establishment of 118 Schools of Eminence across Punjab. These institutions are equipped with world-class infrastructure, advanced laboratories, libraries, and digital learning systems, designed to prepare students for future challenges.
The Chief Minister said, “Our Schools of Eminence are not just buildings; they represent a vision — to provide every child in Punjab with an education at par with the best private schools in the country.” He also emphasised that education must reach every corner of the state, including rural and border areas, so that no student is left behind due to lack of access or resources.
Teachers as the Core of Education Reform
CM Bhagwant Mann repeatedly underlined that no education reform can succeed without the commitment and passion of teachers. He urged educators to continue adapting to new methods of teaching and to focus not only on academic excellence but also on students’ emotional and social growth.
He added that the government is continuously working to improve teachers’ working conditions, provide professional training, and recognise their efforts through regular awards and incentives. “Teachers are the backbone of any education system, and it is our responsibility to ensure they get the respect and support they deserve,” he said.
