Govi. Chezhiaan, Minister for Higher Education, on Saturday said that Tamil Nadu stands unmatched in the country when it comes to the scale and reach of educational welfare schemes. He was addressing a gathering while distributing certificates to the winners of the INSPIRE-MANAK competition for the 2023–2024 and 2024–2025 academic years.
The felicitation ceremony was held at the National Engineering College in Kovilpatti. Appreciating the creativity and achievements of the students, the Minister said such initiatives clearly reflect the strength and depth of the State’s education ecosystem, which continues to nurture innovation at the grassroots level.
Tamil Nadu has built a reputation over the years for steady investments in school and higher education, free learning materials, hostels, scholarships and digital access. For students taking part in competitions like INSPIRE-MANAK, such support becomes a stepping stone to real innovation. This statement by the Higher Education Minister is not just political praise. It reflects how structured policy, steady funding and grassroots-level execution together create impact. Understanding this helps students, parents and educators see where public education policy is heading.
What the Minister Said at the INSPIRE-MANAK Event
While addressing the students and faculty, Govi. Chezhiaan said that Tamil Nadu’s educational schemes stand out because they focus not only on enrolment but also on quality and innovation. He pointed out that students from government schools and colleges are today competing at national and global levels because they receive early exposure to science, research and technology.
He congratulated all the winners of the INSPIRE-MANAK competition and encouraged them to continue working on their ideas with confidence. According to him, innovation should not stop at competitions, but should grow into practical solutions for society.
About the INSPIRE-MANAK Competition
INSPIRE-MANAK is a national-level programme that promotes creativity and scientific thinking among school students. Through this scheme, students are encouraged to develop original ideas that can solve real-life problems. Selected students receive financial support and mentoring to refine their projects.
The competition for the academic years 2023–2024 and 2024–2025 saw participation from students across districts. The winners were awarded certificates in recognition of their innovative efforts in areas such as sustainability, health, agriculture and daily-life technology.
Why Tamil Nadu’s Education Model Stands Out
Over the years, Tamil Nadu has introduced multiple schemes that support students from primary school to higher education. Some key reasons why the State is often seen as a leader in education include:
- Free textbooks, notebooks and uniforms for government school students
- Bicycles and laptops to improve access and digital learning
- Scholarships and hostels for economically weaker sections
- Special coaching for competitive examinations
- Strong focus on higher education through new colleges and universities
These schemes have helped improve enrolment, reduce dropouts and encourage students to aim higher in academics and research.
Focus on Innovation and Research
The Minister also stressed that education policy in Tamil Nadu is now moving beyond classrooms and examinations. The emphasis is steadily shifting towards innovation, research and skill-based learning. Competitions like INSPIRE-MANAK act as early exposure points for students who may later take up careers in science and technology.
He added that the State government is keen on linking such student innovations with industry and research institutions so that good ideas do not remain limited to paper models.
