NMMSS Scholarship 2026-27: Applications Open Until August 31

NMMSS Scholarship 2026-27: Applications Open Until August 31

Many meritorious students are unable to continue their education beyond the secondary level due to financial limits. The centrally administered National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) has been playing a vital role in addressing this issue for years.

Applications for both new and renewal categories of this scholarship for the 2026-27 academic year have now started. Interested and eligible students can apply via the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) until August 31, 2026.

The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) is a centrally sponsored scholarship scheme under the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education.

Its primary objectives are to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from economically weaker families, to reduce the tendency of students to drop out of school after Class VIII, and to encourage students to continue their education at the secondary and higher secondary levels.

For the 2026-27 academic year, both fresh and renewal applications must be submitted by August 31, 2026. The Ministry of Education has advised completing the application process ahead of the deadline to avoid the risk of last-minute technical issues.

Under this scheme, 1,00,000 new scholarships are awarded annually. Key features include the eligibility of Class 9 students for selection; the scholarship can be renewed through Classes 10, 11, and 12, provided the prescribed conditions are met. Students from government, government-aided, and local body schools are eligible to apply. Financial assistance is provided to meritorious students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to help them continue their education.

Scholarship applications will be verified in two stages. Level-1 (L1) verification will be conducted by the Institute Nodal Officer (INO), with a deadline of 15 September 2026. Level-2 (L2) verification will be carried out by the District Nodal Officer (DNO), with a deadline of 30 September 2026. Timely completion of verification will enable the prompt payment of scholarship funds.
