Is the logistics sector truly booming in 2026? In short, yes, and at a very rapid speed. E-commerce, rapid delivery services, and international trade; the engine driving all of these is logistics. Today, the focus is no longer only on delivering goods; rather, managing the entire supply chain has came out as a highly valued skill set. As a result, job opportunities within this sector have increased significantly compared to the past.

Nowadays, many students still struggle to think beyond traditional career paths. In reality, however, logistics is a field where one can begin working immediately after graduation and gradually rise to senior-level positions. Therefore, for those looking to approach their career planning from a slightly different angle, being aware of this is of greatest importance.

Over the past few years, online shopping has become an essential part of our lives. The rapid delivery of products following orders placed on platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, and others is powered by a strong logistics system. Alongside this, several trends are evident: global trade is on the rise, the demand for warehousing and cold storage facilities is increasing, same-day delivery has become a common standard, and digital tracking and AI-based logistics systems have been carried out. For all these reasons, the logistics sector is no longer only a field of employment but rather a thriving industry.

The logistics sector contains a wide variety of roles, each demanding a distinct set of skills. These are briefly discussed below in point form:

• Supply Chain Manager: They handle the entire supply chain—from raw materials to final delivery.
• Warehouse Manager: They oversee all warehouse operations, stock management, and delivery planning.
• Inventory Analyst: They analyse data regarding stock levels—identifying where there are shortages or surpluses.
• Logistics Coordinator: They manage daily shipments, transportation, and delivery tracking.
• Transportation Manager: They manage all aspects of transportation, including trucking, shipping, and route planning.

In the field of logistics, simply holding a degree is not sufficient; certain practical skills are absolutely essential. Some of the notable skills include: problem-solving ability, communication skills, data handling (using Excel and software tools), time management, and a basic understanding of the supply chain. Personally, I believe that those who are capable of smart planning can advance very rapidly in this field.

While the starting salary may not be very high, earnings increase significantly as experience grows. For freshers, the range is ₹15,000 – ₹30,000 per month; for mid-level professionals, it is ₹40,000 – ₹80,000 per month; and for senior roles, it exceeds ₹1 lakh per month. Furthermore, salaries can be even higher in multinational companies.

There is no single, specific path to enter the field of logistics. You can enter this sector through various routes, such as a BBA in Logistics/ Supply Chain, an MBA in Operations/ Logistics, a Diploma in Supply Chain Management, or Certification courses offered on online platforms. Additionally, many individuals enter this field after completing a general bachelor's degree by undertaking an internship.
