UPSC Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility conditions are different for each post, so candidates should not think that a general UPSC qualification rule will apply everywhere.
The notification makes one thing very clear: meeting the minimum qualification does not automatically guarantee an interview call. If the number of applications is high, UPSC can shortlist candidates using higher educational qualifications, additional desirable qualifications, higher relevant experience or a Recruitment Test, among other methods.
So, while filling out the form, I would strongly suggest mentioning all relevant qualifications and experience above the minimum requirement. This can matter during shortlisting.
UPSC Recruitment 2026: Selection Process
Depending on the post and number of applications, UPSC may shortlist candidates directly or conduct a Recruitment Test (RT). Where a Recruitment Test is held, candidates may have to clear the required suitability level at both the Recruitment Test and interview stages.
For interviews, the notification specifies minimum suitability levels of 50 marks for UR candidates, 45 for OBC candidates and 40 for SC/ ST/ PH candidates out of 100, subject to the conditions given in the advertisement.
Shortlisted candidates will have to produce their application printout and original supporting documents at the interview. UPSC will separately communicate the interview schedule.
