A railway job after Class 12 is an attractive option for many young candidates, and the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have announced 1,688 undergraduate-level vacancies under the NTPC Recruitment 2026-27.
The recruitment, advertised through Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) No. 07/2026, covers four posts: Commercial-cum-Ticket Clerk, Accounts Clerk-cum-Typist, Junior Clerk-cum-Typist and Trains Clerk. The online application process began on 15 October 2026, and eligible candidates can submit their forms until 13 November 2026 at 11:59 pm.
These vacancies offer an opportunity to enter Indian Railways without needing a university degree. However, candidates must meet the prescribed Class 12 marks requirement, age limit and other conditions. The recruitment also has different pay levels depending on the post, while the application fee varies by category.
Anyone planning to apply should check the details carefully, particularly the deadline for fee payment and the correction window, so that an otherwise eligible application is not rejected because of a simple mistake.
The 1,688 vacancies are distributed across four positions. Commercial-cum-Ticket Clerk has the highest number of openings, with 700 posts. There are 200 vacancies for Accounts Clerk-cum-Typist, 600 for Junior Clerk-cum-Typist and 188 for Trains Clerk. These are provisional vacancy figures and may be revised by the Railway Recruitment Boards.
Candidates must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board. The general requirement is at least 50% aggregate marks. However, this minimum percentage condition is not insisted upon for SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-servicemen candidates, as well as applicants holding qualifications higher than Class 12, subject to the notification's rules.
The age limit is 18 to 30 years as of 1 January 2027. Reserved-category applicants can claim age relaxation according to government rules. Candidates should check the permitted date-of-birth range for their category in the detailed CEN notification before completing registration.
The salary depends on the post. Commercial-cum-Ticket Clerks are placed under Level 3 of the 7th Central Pay Commission, with an initial basic pay of ₹21,700 per month. Accounts Clerk-cum-Typist, Junior Clerk-cum-Typist and Trains Clerk posts fall under Level 2, with an initial basic pay of ₹19,900 per month. Applicable allowances are provided according to railway rules.
The application fee is ₹500 for candidates in the General, OBC and EWS categories. The fee is ₹250 for SC, ST, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen, women, transgender, minority and Economically Backward Class candidates. Eligible applicants who appear for the first-stage CBT will receive a refund according to the category-wise rules mentioned in the notification.
The selection process includes computer-based examinations, followed by document verification and a medical examination. Candidates applying for the typist-related posts should read the detailed notification for the applicable skill-test provisions. The examination schedule for the undergraduate recruitment has not yet been announced.
The online application window opened on 15 October 2026. Candidates can submit their forms through the unified RRB application portal until 13 November 2026. The last date for fee payment is 15 November, while the application modification window will remain open from 16 to 25 November 2026. Applicants should complete registration, provide accurate educational and personal details, upload the required documents and pay the applicable fee before the deadline.
With 1,688 vacancies available, RRB NTPC UG Recruitment 2026 is an important opportunity for Class 12 pass candidates seeking a railway career. Applicants should read CEN 07/2026 carefully and keep checking the official portal for examination-related announcements.
