Uttar Pradesh has announced a major recruitment drive for 12,405 Assistant Teacher posts under Advertisement No. 05/2026. The vacancies are divided between urban primary schools under the Basic Education Department and primary sections attached to aided secondary schools.
The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) initially invited online applications from 16 September 2026 and later extended the submission deadline to 28 October 2026. The recruitment has attracted attention among teaching aspirants because of its large number of vacancies across the state.
There is an important update for candidates who are following this recruitment. As of 30 October 2026, the extended application deadline has already passed. However, applicants who submitted their forms can still use the correction window until 31 October 2026. The written examination is scheduled for 3 and 4 December 2026. Candidates should keep these dates in mind and check the official commission website for any further announcements regarding the examination.
The recruitment covers two categories of Assistant Teacher posts. Of the total 12,405 vacancies, 11,508 posts are for Assistant Teachers in urban primary schools under the Basic Education Department. The remaining 897 posts are for Assistant Teachers in primary sections attached to non-government aided secondary schools under the Secondary Education Department. These 897 vacancies include 473 posts in boys' schools and 424 in girls' schools.
The recruitment is intended for candidates with a recognised bachelor's degree, an approved elementary teacher training qualification and a valid Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) qualification, as prescribed for the relevant post. Accepted training qualifications include BTC, D.El.Ed. and other recognised equivalent qualifications mentioned in the official notification. Candidates must carefully check the separate eligibility conditions for urban and aided-school positions.
For the urban Assistant Teacher posts, the general age limit is 21 to 40 years as of 1 July 2026. Reserved-category candidates may receive age relaxation according to Uttar Pradesh government rules. The aided-school posts have separate service and age-related conditions, so applicants should refer to the detailed advertisement before drawing conclusions about their eligibility.
The application fee was ₹1,000 for General, OBC and EWS candidates, ₹500 for SC and ST candidates, and ₹300 for candidates with disabilities. Applications were accepted online after completing the mandatory One Time Registration (OTR) process.
The selection process includes a written examination. According to the announced schedule, the UP Assistant Teacher Selection Examination 2026 will be conducted on 3 and 4 December 2026. Candidates should follow the commission's announcements for examination-centre details, admit cards and other instructions.
The original application deadline of 15 October 2026 was extended to 28 October 2026 for online form submission and fee payment. The correction facility remains available until 31 October 2026. Candidates who have already applied should review their submitted information and make any permitted corrections before the window closes.
With more than 12,000 vacancies, this is an important recruitment drive for eligible teaching professionals in Uttar Pradesh. Although fresh applications are no longer being accepted under the extended schedule, registered candidates should now focus on checking their application details and preparing for the December examination.
