UGC NET, CSIR NET December 2026: 2.18 Lakh Applications Received

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has received a combined total of 2,18,961 applications for the UGC NET and Joint CSIR UGC NET December 2026 examinations. According to information shared by the agency, the UGC NET December session accounts for 1,86,301 applications, while 32,660 candidates have registered for the Joint CSIR UGC NET. Both examinations are important for postgraduate candidates seeking opportunities in research and academic careers across India.

The application figures indicate strong interest among candidates preparing for eligibility tests that can open doors to research fellowships, Assistant Professor positions and PhD admissions. However, applicants should pay attention to the separate application deadlines and examination schedules, as the two tests follow different timelines.

The UGC NET application deadline mentioned in the notice has already passed, while the Joint CSIR UGC NET application window is scheduled to remain open until 5 November 2026. Candidates should check the relevant official portal for the latest instructions.

The UGC NET December 2026 examination has received 1,86,301 applications so far, making it the larger of the two examinations in terms of registrations. The application deadline was 28 October 2026. Candidates who have already submitted their forms should keep checking the official NTA website for updates regarding the examination process.

The UGC NET December session is scheduled to take place from 14 December to 19 December 2026. The examination will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. UGC NET is held twice a year and determines eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professor positions and PhD admissions, depending on the candidate's performance and applicable eligibility conditions.

Meanwhile, the Joint CSIR UGC NET December 2026 examination has received 32,660 applications, according to the figures reported in the newspaper. Candidates interested in this examination have until 5 November 2026 to submit their applications through the official website, csirnet.nta.nic.in.

The Joint CSIR UGC NET examination is particularly relevant to candidates pursuing research in science-related subjects. It provides an opportunity to qualify for research fellowships and other academic pathways, subject to the eligibility requirements of the respective institutions.

According to the schedule mentioned in the notice, the Joint CSIR UGC NET December 2026 examination will be held on 9, 22 and 27 December 2026 at examination centres across the country. The test will be conducted in two shifts.

Candidates who are yet to complete their Joint CSIR NET applications should visit the official portal and carefully read the eligibility criteria and application instructions. They should check their personal details, educational information and uploaded documents before submitting the form. It is also advisable to complete the process well before the deadline rather than waiting until the final day.

With the UGC NET application window already closed and the CSIR NET deadline approaching, candidates should keep track of the separate examination updates. For authentic announcements, application-related information and further instructions, they should rely on the official NTA websites rather than unofficial sources.
