Nagpur: Twelve-year-old Amaya Sumedh Thool has made Nagpur proud by winning two gold medals in Kumite and Kata at the Second All India Traditional Shotokan Sports Karate Championship 2026, held in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand.
A student of Sandipani School, Nagpur, Amaya has been training in karate since the age of five. Her outstanding performance at the national-level championship is the result of years of disciplined practice, dedication, hard work and determination.
Amaya has set her sights on representing India at the Olympic Games in the future. She is pursuing this dream with determination under the guidance and training of Vijay Gichare, President of the Vidarbha Karate Association and her coach.
Amaya dedicated both of her gold medals to her mentor and coach, Vijay Gichare, and to her parents, whose constant support has encouraged her throughout her sporting journey. She also expressed her gratitude to the teachers of Sandipani School for providing her with education, values and discipline.
According to Amaya, the guidance and sanskar she has received from her school have helped her develop the confidence, discipline and determination required to perform at the competitive level.
On the occasion of her achievement, Naveenchandra Reddy, Joint Commissioner of Police, Nagpur City, welcomed and congratulated Amaya. He appreciated her outstanding performance and extended his best wishes for her future sporting career. He also encouraged her to continue working hard towards her dream of representing India at the Olympics.
Amaya’s achievement has brought immense pride and happiness to her family, coach, teachers and the people of Nagpur. At just 12 years of age, winning two gold medals at a national-level championship is a significant accomplishment and marks a promising beginning to her sporting journey.
With continued dedication, proper guidance and hard work, Amaya is determined to take her karate journey to the international level. Her goal is to represent India at the Olympics one day and make the nation proud.
