Solapur/Hyderabad: Pandharpur, known as the Southern Kashi of Maharashtra, has given the country many inspiring personalities. Among them is Dr. Sangramsingh Patil, whose remarkable journey from medicine to the Indian Police Service has become an example of determination, courage and service to society.
Dr. Patil comes from a family with a strong medical background, with around 18 doctors in the family. Becoming a doctor and continuing in the medical profession was a natural career option for him. However, he wanted to explore a larger platform for public service.
During the final year of his MBBS, his father’s health problems created a difficult phase in his education. Around the same time, he decided to prepare for the UPSC examination. The decision was not easy and his family had understandable concerns. His mother, however, encouraged him to remain strong and continue pursuing his goal.
He moved to Delhi and began preparing for the UPSC examination. After facing the challenges of the highly competitive examination, he achieved success in his third attempt and entered the Indian Police Service.
His journey became even more distinctive during the COVID 19 pandemic. As a police officer, he was responsible for maintaining public safety and ensuring social distancing. At the same time, his medical background allowed him to contribute to the health related needs of people.
An innovative social distancing method was introduced in his area of responsibility, where boxes were marked on the ground and people were asked to maintain distance by standing in separate boxes. The idea attracted considerable public attention through photographs and news coverage. Similar box based arrangements were later seen at several places across the country as part of social distancing measures.
Dr. Patil also continued to use his medical knowledge during the pandemic. Along with his police responsibilities, he participated in medical assistance and helped examine patients. His ability to serve society both as a police officer and as a doctor made his contribution during the difficult period particularly noteworthy.
His work in sensitive and remote areas of Telangana has added another important dimension to his career. He has focused not only on law and order but also on building trust among local communities. Health camps and medical assistance in tribal areas helped bring people closer to the police administration.
Learning the local Telugu language also helped him communicate directly with residents and understand their concerns better. His approach reflects a combination of professional policing, medical sensitivity and community service.
For young people preparing for UPSC and other competitive examinations, Dr. Patil’s journey carries a strong message. He believes that aspirants should first understand the examination pattern and syllabus properly. Reading books alone is not enough. Regular practice with question papers, answer writing, mock tests and effective time management is equally important.
He also encourages young people not to lose confidence after failure. A clear goal, disciplined preparation and consistent effort can gradually turn a difficult dream into reality. At the same time, having an alternative career plan can provide confidence and stability during the journey.
Dr. Sangramsingh Patil’s journey from Pandharpur to the Telangana Police is more than a story of professional success.
