A major breakthrough has been achieved in the investigation into the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (Maharashtra TET 2026) question paper leak case. The police have arrested the alleged mastermind, Bijendra Gupta, from Bihar. Another individual has also been detained alongside him.
Details regarding the specific district in Bihar where the arrest took place have not yet been officially disclosed. Investigating agencies believe that this arrest could yield crucial leads in the probe into the long-running question paper leak racket.
According to police sources, the Bhiwandi police in Maharashtra have arrested Bijendra Gupta from Bihar. Another individual has also been taken into custody alongside him.
Following the arrest, he was brought to Pune Airport. From there, he will be taken to Bhiwandi for legal proceedings. However, the police have not yet disclosed the specific district in Bihar from which he was arrested.
The Maharashtra STF and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the case conducted a raid on July 1 at the 'Quick Digital Cyber Cafe' in Hajipur, located in Bihar's Vaishali district.
During the operation, three individuals, including the cafe's operator, Sonu Kumar, were detained and interrogated. Police investigations revealed evidence of contact between Sonu Kumar and Bijendra Gupta; so, the investigation's primary focus shifted towards Bijendra Gupta.
Investigators claim that the analysis of call records and financial transaction data yielded crucial information regarding Suman Kumari, the wife of Bijendra Gupta. Based on this, she was arrested on July 1, 2026, from the area under the jurisdiction of the Agamkuan Police Station in Patna. The police state that the information regarding financial transactions and communications played a significant role in the investigation.
Several accused individuals have already been arrested in this case. During the investigation, Pawan Kumar from Delhi and Hariom Panu from Haryana were arrested. The investigating agency claims that they were close associates of Bijender Gupta.
The Maharashtra TET 2026 examination was scheduled to be held on June 28. However, allegations of a portion of the question paper being leaked surfaced just a day before the exam. So, the Thane district police arrested three individuals, and the administration decided to postpone the examination. As a result of this decision, approximately 6,00,000 candidates were left facing uncertainty.
Preliminary investigations by the investigating agency have revealed that the reach of this question paper leak racket was not limited to Maharashtra alone.
The investigation has uncovered links to several states, including Delhi, Agra, Bihar, and Haryana. The police are now continuing their investigation to identify others involved in the racket and determine how the question papers were leaked.
