Devendra Fadnavis Discussed Multiple Projects During a Meeting with Prime Minister Modi

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis held a crucial meeting regarding Maharashtra's developmental projects, farmers' issues, and the future of the cooperative sugar industry. On May 28, in New Delhi, he met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and held detailed discussions concerning various ongoing projects and developmental initiatives within the state. Following the meeting, Fadnavis stated that the Prime Minister's guidance would help accelerate the state's development plans and had added a sense of positive energy.

I am writing about this subject because Maharashtra is one of the country's most economically significant states, and its development projects, agricultural policies, and industrial decisions are directly linked with the lives of millions of people.

In particular, the discussions surrounding the sugar industry, onion farmers, and ethanol production could have an impact not only within Maharashtra but also across the nation's agricultural and industrial sectors. Therefore, it is crucial to understand what was discussed during this meeting and what decisions may emerge in the days ahead.

Devendra Fadnavis met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and informed him of various developmental projects in Maharashtra.

Fadnavis stated that a detailed discussion was held regarding various ongoing projects, government initiatives, and future development plans in the state. He remarked that the Prime Minister's advice and guidance are invaluable to the state. Following the meeting, in a message posted on social media, he thanked the Prime Minister for his time and guidance.

Maharashtra is currently implementing multiple projects aimed at infrastructure development, industrial investment, transportation systems, and strengthening its agrarian economy. According to Fadnavis, cooperation from the Central Government will play a crucial role in accelerating the progress of these projects. For this very reason, particular significance is being attached to this meeting with the Prime Minister.

In addition to his meeting with the Prime Minister, Fadnavis also held a separate meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. This meeting primarily focused on key issues such as the cooperative sugar industry, ethanol production, debt restructuring, and the concerns of onion farmers. The Chief Minister stated that the meeting was conducted in a highly positive atmosphere and yielded encouraging indications regarding several matters.

Fadnavis stated that positive discussions regarding an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) took place during the meeting. According to him, Union Home Minister Amit Shah provided assurances that a positive decision regarding the MSP hike would be taken. If implemented, this decision could enable farmers to secure better prices for their produce. 

Fadnavis further mentioned that discussions were also held with the Centre regarding an increase in the ethanol quota. A proposal has been sought in this regard; if approved, it could resolve several long-standing issues faced by sugar mill owners.

Farmers in Maharashtra have long been dealing with issues concerning onion prices and marketing challenges. In this context, Fadnavis stated that the State Government has requested that the volume of onion procurement conducted through NAFED be raised to 10 lakh tonnes. Additionally, a demand to increase the buying price for onions has also been submitted to the Centre. He noted that a significant decision regarding this matter is expected within the next 10 days.

If the decisions regarding the increase in MSP, the expansion of ethanol quotas, and debt restructuring are implemented, their positive impact could be observed in both the agricultural and industrial sectors; in particular, these measures could play a significant role in improving the financial condition of the sugar industry, the cooperative sector, and onion farmers.
