Nagpur Shalarth ID Inquiry to Cover 1,397 Teachers Appointed Since 2014

The Maharashtra education authorities are expanding scrutiny of teacher appointments in the Nagpur division amid the ongoing investigation into irregularities linked to the Shalarth ID system.

Appointments made from 2014 onwards are being examined, with 1,397 teachers and non-teaching employees included in the list for scrutiny. The review is expected to cover not only teachers but also school principals, management representatives and officials associated with the appointment and salary approval process.

Appointment records under examination

The inquiry is focused on verifying whether appointments and the related documentation were valid and properly approved. Records connected with Shalarth IDs, individual approvals and appointment orders are among the documents to be examined.

The investigation follows concerns over appointments in aided schools and the use of the Shalarth system for processing salary-related matters. The education authorities have directed divisional-level officials to examine cases dating back to 2014.

A separate set of 632 teachers and non-teaching employees had earlier been identified for detailed scrutiny in connection with the Shalarth ID matter. Questions were raised over the availability and validity of their appointment records and supporting documents.

Principals and school managements also under scrutiny

The proceedings are not limited to employees. School principals and management representatives connected with the appointments may also be required to appear and produce relevant records.

Officials associated with the education department, including personnel involved in processing appointment approvals and salary-related documentation, are also coming under examination where their role in individual cases needs to be established.

The process is intended to determine whether the appointments and related approvals were supported by the required documentation.

Hearings planned in Nagpur division

A meeting of salary-section officials from districts in the Nagpur division has been held as part of preparations for the next stage of the process. The education authorities have planned hearings involving individuals whose names appear in the relevant lists.

The hearings are expected to begin in the first week of October, according to the information available in the material reviewed for this report.

During the proceedings, individuals will have an opportunity to present appointment records and other documents relevant to their cases. The examination will also look at personal approval records and supporting paperwork connected with the appointments.
