Home Minister Amit Shah Writes to Lok Sabha Speaker Seeking Discussion on NEET Examination

New Delhi, August 12, 2026: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, urging that the issue of the NEET examination be discussed in Parliament. In his letter, Shah appealed to all political parties to cooperate in ensuring a constructive discussion on the matter.

In the letter, Amit Shah stated that Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had requested that the issue of the NEET examination be taken up during the discussion on the business of the Lok Sabha. He also pointed out that the matter had been discussed in Parliament earlier.

The letter also refers to the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, which has been discussed in the House. Shah expressed the view that Members of Parliament should be given an opportunity to present their views on various issues concerning the NEET examination.

Shah appealed for a discussion on the subject so that members could arrive at as much consensus as possible. He also urged members to remain present in the House during the discussion, participate in the debate and respond to questions raised by the Opposition.

He further emphasised that in a democracy, dialogue and discussion provide the way forward towards finding solutions. He said that it was therefore important for Parliament to deliberate on this significant issue in a positive and constructive atmosphere.

Shah also requested that discussions be held with leaders of the Opposition to create a conducive environment for debate and to ensure that Members of Parliament from all sides get an opportunity to present their views on the issue.

The letter was addressed to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on August 12, 2026, and bears an acknowledgement stamp from the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

NEET Issue Likely to Come Up for Fresh Parliamentary Discussion 

The letter from Amit Shah is likely to pave the way for a renewed and wider discussion in Parliament on issues related to the NEET examination. Members from both the ruling party and the Opposition may get an opportunity to present their respective views on the matter.
