Maharashtra Approves 5,012 Assistant Professor Posts in Aided Colleges

The Maharashtra government has approved the recruitment of a total of 5,012 Assistant Professors in non-government aided senior colleges. According to the Government Resolution (GR) issued by the Higher and Technical Education Department, these posts have been sanctioned based on the student strength and teaching workload recorded in October 2025 for colleges affiliated with the state's public universities.

To ensure greater transparency in the recruitment process, mandatory CCTV recording of the entire interview session has been introduced. This marks a significant step towards enhancing transparency and accountability in recruitment.

This news is significant for both candidates seeking teaching positions and the non-government aided colleges themselves. The GR not only sanctions the new Assistant Professor posts but also provides detailed guidelines on maintaining transparency at every stage of recruitment.

Colleges are required to adhere to specific protocols throughout the process, ranging from the publication of advertisements to shortlisting and conducting interviews. Notably, the requirement to preserve CCTV footage for at least one year could play a crucial role in addressing any complaints that might arise regarding the recruitment process in the future.

In accordance with a new decision by the Maharashtra government, the recruitment of 5,012 Assistant Professors in non-government aided senior colleges has been approved.

The number of these posts has been determined based on student strength and the teaching workload of the colleges, projected up to October 2025. This approval applies to the relevant colleges affiliated with the state's public universities.

This new recruitment drive is expected to meet teaching requirements in higher education institutions while also creating employment opportunities for eligible candidates.

The Government Resolution also lays down specific guidelines regarding the publication of recruitment advertisements. Before publishing an advertisement for the recruitment of an Assistant Professor, a college must obtain approval from the concerned university.

The advertisement must be published in both a national newspaper and a state-level newspaper. Colleges may accept applications through both online and offline modes.

This will expand the reach of recruitment information to eligible candidates.

Colleges must follow the criteria prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) when shortlisting candidates.

In addition, they must comply with social reservation and parallel reservation policies; in other words, it is mandatory for colleges to follow the applicable reservation during the recruitment process.

To ensure greater transparency in the shortlisting process, colleges are required to publish the shortlisting criteria and the list of shortlisted candidates on their websites. They must also submit the necessary recruitment-related details to the concerned university.

Another important directive has been issued regarding the retention of CCTV footage.

If any complaint, objection, inquiry, court proceeding, or statutory proceeding is pending, the recording must not be destroyed until the matter is fully resolved.

In other words, while the obligation to retain footage may expire after one year in ordinary circumstances, it must be preserved if an argument or legal proceeding is ongoing.
