Maharashtra Cabinet Approves Revised 143-Post Staffing Structure for Lokayukta Office

Mumbai | July 21, 2026: The Maharashtra Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has approved a revised staffing structure comprising 143 posts for the office of the Lokayukta and Upa-Lokayukta to strengthen the institution’s functioning and improve administrative efficiency.

Maharashtra remains the first state in the country to establish the offices of the Lokayukta and Upa-Lokayukta. Earlier, the government had sanctioned a staffing structure of 87 posts for these offices.

Following the implementation of the Maharashtra Lokayukta Act, 2023, modelled on the Central Government framework, the Lokayukta institution has witnessed an expansion in both its membership and jurisdiction. The enhanced responsibilities have created a need for additional manpower to ensure effective implementation of the Act.

Accordingly, the Cabinet has approved the revised staffing pattern, increasing the sanctioned strength from 87 to 143 posts. The additional 56 posts include 31 regular positions, 23 outsourced posts, and 2 Information Technology personnel.

The decision is expected to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Lokayukta office, improve administrative efficiency, and support the effective discharge of its expanded responsibilities under the Maharashtra Lokayukta Act, 2023.
