PM Internship Scheme Round 3: Highest Number of Internships in Maharashtra

Maharashtra has topped the list in the third phase of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) by offering the highest number of internship opportunities. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh continues to lead in terms of student applications and participation.

With the increasing involvement of various industries and corporate entities, the scheme is growing as a major opportunity for the country's youth to gain real-world workplace experience. Additionally, final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students are now eligible to apply for the scheme, a significant change compared to previous criteria.

According to the latest data, Maharashtra ranks first in the country in terms of internship opportunities at this stage. Tamil Nadu follows closely behind. Additionally, a large number of organisations in industrialised states, including Gujarat, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh, have participated in this scheme.

A higher number of internship opportunities have been created in these states due to the strong presence of the industrial and manufacturing sectors.

While Maharashtra leads in terms of internship opportunities, Uttar Pradesh has maintained its position as one of the top states regarding the number of applicants and selected students.

This shows a rapidly growing interest among the state's youth in gaining industry-based work experience and reflects their confidence in this government scheme.

The primary objective of this project is to provide the country's youth with the opportunity to gain practical workplace experience alongside their studies.

Through internships, students get the chance to learn the ropes in various sectors such as manufacturing, financial services, technology, healthcare, and consumer industries, thereby equipping themselves with the skills needed for future employment.

Interns selected under the PM Internship Scheme will also receive financial assistance. Under the scheme, a monthly stipend of ₹5,000 will be provided. A one-time financial grant (Joining Support) will be provided at the time of joining.

The objective of this financial assistance is to reduce some of the financial load on students during their training.

Previously, only students who had completed their degrees were eligible to apply. However, following consultations with the Ministry of Education and the Department of Higher Education, final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students have now also been granted the opportunity to apply. According to the government, this will enable students to gain practical industry experience before completing their studies.

Final-year students must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) when applying. This NOC must state that the internship will not have any negative impact on their studies. Additionally, the NOC must bear the signature of any one of the following: Head of Department (HOD), Dean, Principal, or Training and Placement Officer.
