CBSE Board Exams 2027; Preparations Begin Ahead of Class 10 and 12 Exams

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has initiated the pre-examination process for next year's Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations. As part of this, steps are being taken to appoint an agency to scan and digitize 'flying slips' containing candidate details. These slips typically include crucial information such as the candidate's name, identification number, roll number, centre number, and subject code.

Why start Preparations so Early?

CBSE examination activities are conducted in three stages: pre examination, examination, and post examination. Flying slip scanning is part of the pre examination phase. While candidate details were previously prepared largely through manual processes in schools, the transparent volume of examinees has led to the digitization of this procedure over the past few years.

Approximately 18 lakh Class 12 students and 25 to 26 lakh Class 10 students participate in the examinations. Kind documents estimate that a total of around 29.89 lakh candidates will appear for the 2027–28 board exams. Processing such a vast amount of data manually is not only time consuming but also increases the probability of errors.

The selected agency will scan the 'flying slips' using ICR, OCR, and OMR scanners. So, a raw data file will be generated and cross-verified against the CBSE's 'Admission Master' database.

Any discrepancies regarding the Centre Number, Roll Number, Subject Code, Candidate Name, or Identification Number will be identified and rectified. An 'edit list' will be prepared for invalid or duplicate entries, and the data will be updated until the necessary corrections are completed.

Before finalizing CBSE candidate details, schools are required to generate a copy of the information and have it verified by students and parents. If any errors are found, the details must be resubmitted online after the necessary corrections are made. Therefore, it is crucial to completely check names, identification details, and other information during this verification stage.

The scanning and data finalisation work will be carried out at 24 CBSE regional locations. These include regions such as Ajmer, Prayagraj, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi East, Delhi West, Gurugram, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Noida, Panchkula, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada.

According to the tender, the selected agency will be awarded a 2 year contract. In addition to scanning, their responsibilities will include data preparation, processing, printing, verification, and error correction.

According to officials, flying-slip scanning is typically conducted two to three times a year during the year end Board examinations and part examinations. So, candidate data management has become a regular part of the CBSE examination system.
