India’s Education Job Market Grows 14%: Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu Top the List

Job opportunities in India's education sector have increased significantly over the past year. According to a report published by Indeed, job postings in the education sector rose by approximately 14% between July 2025 and July 2026.

Changes are evident not only in the volume of jobs but also in hiring patterns. While full-time job postings increased by about 14%, contract positions jumped by nearly 40% and part-time opportunities by approximately 28%.

Teaching-related job postings fell to their lowest level in the 12 months leading up to October 2025. However, teaching postings rose for nine back to back months starting in January 2026, reaching a 12 month high in July 2026. This recovery signals a fresh demand for teacher recruitment in the education sector.

Job postings in the field of language education have also increased. Teaching positions for German saw the highest growth at 22.8%, followed by English (20%), Hindi (16.7%), and French (8.2%). This trend indicates that new employment opportunities are coming up, particularly in foreign language and multilingual education.

In July 2026, Maharashtra held the largest share of education sector job postings on Indeed at 14.3%. Tamil Nadu followed closely in second place with 14.2%. Next came Karnataka with an 11.8% share and Kerala with 10%. Together, these four states accounted for more than half of the education-sector job postings.

This data indicates that a career in education is no longer limited to traditional full time teaching; contract teaching, part-time work, language education, and specialized roles are rapidly gaining importance.

Therefore, alongside subject knowledge, it would be beneficial for job seekers to develop language proficiency, digital teaching skills, and specialized expertise.
