Maharashtra Class 11 Admission 2026: Junior Colleges Warned Against Unauthorised Offline Admissions

The School Education Department in Maharashtra has adopted a strict stance regarding Class 11 admissions. Junior colleges across the state have been explicitly informed that no student may be admitted to Class 11 outside the prescribed Centralised Online Admission System.

In other words, the Education Department has warned colleges against granting Class 11 admissions through offline modes or any other unauthorised methods. Disciplinary action may be taken not only against the institutions violating the rules but also against the concerned principals. 

The Maharashtra government has introduced a Centralised Online Admission System to bring greater regulation to Class 11 admissions. According to a Government Resolution issued by the School Education and Sports Department, admissions for Class 11 in the state's Higher Secondary Schools and Junior Colleges are being conducted through this centralised online system starting from the 2025-26 academic year.

The objective extends beyond only digitising the admission process; the system also aims to monitor and regulate aspects such as bond to approved seat capacities and ensuring that seat allocation follows established guidelines.

If any college independently founds offline admissions, the character of the entire admission system is called into question. This lies at the heart of the recent warning issued by the Education Department.

The Education Department received information that some junior colleges were admitting students directly instead of following the Centralised Online Admission System. Apart from complaints regarding offline admissions, instances of admitting students beyond the sanctioned intake capacity have also come to light.

The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has instructed Deputy Directors of Education to closely monitor the implementation of the centralised online admission procedure for Class 11.

In particular, colleges should ensure that they:

• Do not admit students outside the Centralised Online Admission System
• Do not admit students beyond the sanctioned seat capacity
• Attach to the prescribed rules for Class 11 admissions
• Keep students within the authorised admission process

The Maharashtra School Education Department has issued a strict warning regarding this matter. Violations could trigger disciplinary proceedings not only against the concerned junior college but also against its principal.

According to the Director of Education (Secondary and Higher Secondary), proceedings may be started if necessary under the Maharashtra Employees of Private Schools (Conditions of Service) Act, 1977, and the Rules framed thereunder in 1981.

In other words, this cannot be viewed only as an administrative advisory; the option to take formal action against the concerned authorities remains open in the event of non compliance.
