4 Maharashtra Battalion NCC Joins Forces with AIIMS Nagpur for Vital Health Checkup and Blood Donation Drive

Nagpur, Maharashtra - May 23, 2026 - Responding to the urgent regional call for blood, the 4 Maharashtra Battalion NCC has successfully conducted a comprehensive health check-up and voluntary blood donation camp today. This initiative, held during the ongoing Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC), serves as a critical community support measure amid the severe blood shortage currently impacting Nagpur.

With local reports highlighting that private blood banks in the city are struggling to maintain even minimum reserves due to the summer season - which has disrupted regular donation drives by students and social organizations - the NCC’s contribution is a vital intervention to support local medical needs.

Collaborative Response to Community Crisis

The noble initiative was conducted in active collaboration with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Nagpur, a facility currently noted for its stable blood reserves. The collaboration aimed to address the rising local demand for safe blood, which is essential for accident victims, cancer patients, those with thalassemia and sickle cell disease, women facing childbirth complications, and patients undergoing surgeries.

Key Highlights of the Initiative

The multi-faceted community welfare event focused on both immediate medical support and long-term health awareness: Voluntary Blood Donation Drive: A large number of medically screened NCC cadets stepped forward to donate blood. These units are being handed over to the AIIMS blood bank to fortify stocks for critical emergencies and specialized treatments in the region.

Comprehensive Health Screenings: Specialist doctors from AIIMS provided thorough check-ups for the cadets, evaluating vital parameters including Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure, vision, and general physical fitness.

Wellness & Hygiene Awareness: The camp featured specialized counseling sessions on personal hygiene, nutrition, and preventive healthcare strategies to bolster the long-term well-being of the youth.

Leadership and Commitment

Speaking on the occasion, Col Gautam Kapoor (Camp Commandant), Lt Col Ajay Kumar (Dy Camp Commandant), and Dr. Soumya Das (Associate Prof, Dept. of Transfusion Medicine & Blood Centre, AIIMS) commended the cadets for their exemplary discipline and selfless dedication.

Dr. Das emphasized that the partnership ensured the highest standards of safety and hygiene protocols were strictly observed throughout the drive. This initiative underscores the core values of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and serves as a vital bridge between premier medical institutions like AIIMS and localised community health needs during challenging seasonal shortages.
