Pune | In a major relief for students of ILS Law College, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has drastically reduced the college’s “other fees” for the academic years 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25. The revised fee structure brings the charges down by nearly 90 percent compared to what students were earlier required to pay.
According to the university’s latest decision, the approved “other fees” have been fixed at ₹2,714 for 2022-23, ₹4,031 for 2023-24, and ₹3,342 for 2024-25. Earlier, the amount charged under this category was around ₹37,000, making the reduction a significant financial relief for students.
The decision was taken after recommendations made by SPPU’s Fee Fixation Committee and was subsequently approved by the Vice-Chancellor. These fees cover facilities and activities such as moot courts, seminars, library services, cultural events, placement support and e-learning resources.
The revision comes after months of controversy over the college’s fee proposal. The matter had even reached the Bombay High Court, which directed the university to reconsider the proposal after questions were raised over the fee approval process.
The move is being seen as a positive step towards ensuring greater transparency in fee regulation and reducing the financial burden on law students. Many students are now hopeful that the revised structure will lead to fairer fee practices in higher education institutions across Maharashtra.
