Controversy Surrounding the Maharashtra CET Merit List 2026

A new controversy is surrounding the MHT-CET 2025-26 B.E/ B.Tech admission process in Maharashtra. From social media platforms to political circles, questions are now being raised everywhere regarding the transparency of the merit list. Discussions on the matter have increased following allegations of a significant difference between the previous academic results of certain students and their scores in the MHT-CET examination.

The controversy was specifically sparked by allegations that a few students who reportedly secured only average marks in their Class 10 and 12 examinations have this time achieved a 100th percentile in the MHT-CET.

Congress leader and AICC Secretary Sachin Sawant was the first to publicly raise questions regarding this matter. He alleged that there was a normal difference between the past academic records and the current MHT-CET scores of certain candidates.

According to him, students who had previously secured relatively low marks in their school board examinations suddenly achieved top percentiles in the MHT-CET, thereby giving rise to suspicion. Following the emergence of these allegations, the issue sparked widespread discussion across social media platforms. Many have since demanded greater transparency regarding the merit calculation, evaluation system, and ranking process.

The Maharashtra CET Cell has categorically denied all allegations. They claim that the entire admission and merit list preparation process was conducted with complete transparency. The authorities have stated that there were no irregularities or scams of any kind involved in the preparation of the 2025 merit list.

Furthermore, the CET Cell has affirmed that all rankings and score calculations were generated in strict observance of government regulations and established guidelines. They also maintain that no undue advantage was extended to any candidate.

During a press conference on May 19, Sachin Sawant demanded an independent and fair investigation. According to him, the questions being raised regarding the merit list are creating confusion among students and weakening public trust in the admission system. He further stated that if everything was indeed conducted transparently, the CET Cell should release more detailed information regarding the merit preparation process.

Now, many students and parents are looking for a clearer explanation regarding the merit list system. In particular, many are good at obtaining detailed information concerning percentile calculation, the normalisation process, and score verification. According to some education experts, only dismissing complaints is not sufficient; rather, a stronger proof mechanism needs to be established to avoid such controversies in the future.
