For Immediate Release MNLU Nagpur Hosts Prof.(Dr.) Faizan Mustafa and Prof.(Dr.) Dilip Ukey for New Batch

Nagpur: Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU), Nagpur, hosted a distinguished academic interaction for its newly inducted undergraduate and postgraduate students, welcoming two eminent and widely respected legal minds — Prof.(Dr.) Faizan Mustafa, a renowned constitutional law scholar and Vice-Chancellor, Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna, and Prof.(Dr.) Dilip Ukey, an accomplished jurist and legal educator, and Vice-Chancellor, Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU), Mumbai. The distinguished guests were warmly welcomed to the University by Prof.(Dr.) V. P. Tiwari, Officiating (I/C) Vice-Chancellor, MNLU Nagpur.

Understanding the Law: Prof.(Dr.) Faizan Mustafa's Address 

Prof.(Dr.) Faizan Mustafa, one of India's most distinguished and versatile constitutional law experts, spoke to the new entrants on how to understand law itself, taking the students through the meaning and nature of law and its many sources with characteristic clarity and erudition. Drawing on rich comparative material, he illustrated his points with examples from Hindu law, the Common law tradition, French law, German law, and Jewish (Shalom) law, giving the students a wide-ranging, cross-jurisdictional lens through which to approach legal study. His lucid and engaging style of delivery, combined with his deep scholarship, left a lasting impression on the young minds present. He also touched upon the interface of these legal traditions with constitutional interpretation in the Indian context.

Natural Law Theory: Prof.(Dr.) Dilip Ukey's Address 

Prof.(Dr.) Dilip Ukey, a distinguished jurist and seasoned legal educator known for his thoughtful and student-centric approach, addressed the students on Natural Law Theory, tracing its philosophical foundations and its continuing relevance to constitutional law. Speaking with warmth and conviction, he explained how natural law thinking has shaped legal systems over time and encouraged the new entrants to approach the study of law with both rigour and curiosity.

Interaction with Faculty 

Beyond his address to students, Prof.(Dr.) Faizan Mustafa also interacted separately with the faculty of MNLU Nagpur, sharing valuable and practical insights, born of his own long and distinguished career in legal academia, on how to prepare for lectures and make classroom teaching more engaging. He spoke on the importance of strong course content, active student engagement, and well-designed question papers, and observed that universities should be driven by academics and teaching rather than administrative considerations alone. On faculty development, he noted that young teachers should focus on quality teaching, research and building strong teacher-student relationships. He also responded to a question from Prof.(Dr.) V. P. Tiwari on how universities should approach student demands, advising that institutions ought to remain receptive to reasonable requests while holding firm against those that are unethical or impractical.

The newly inducted students and faculty engaged actively with both speakers, and the session concluded with a lively round of questions and discussion, reflecting the depth of interest the interaction generated across the University.
