As the investigation into the NEET UG 2026 paper leak case progresses, new and great details continue to surface. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has now turned its scrutiny toward an unnamed official associated with the National Testing Agency (NTA). The investigative agency suspects that an insider may have played a role in the paper leak incident.
Several arrests have already been made in connection with this case, and the investigation has now reached a more advanced stage. The NEET UG 2026 examination, which was cancelled following allegations of a paper leak, is now scheduled to be re-conducted on June 21.
The investigating agency has stated that the interrogation of the accused arrested in connection with the paper leak case has generated indications of insider involvement. The CBI claims that the role of an unnamed NTA official, suspected to be linked to this ring, is currently under scrutiny.
According to sources, the question papers and answer keys reached the hands of some of the accused as early as April 27; furthermore, it is believed that multiple individuals may be involved in this paper leak network, and that the questions were also circulated through financial exchanges.
In connection with this case, the Central Bureau of Investigation has already arrested Manisha Sanjay Waghmare, Chemistry lecturer P.V. Kulkarni, and Dhananjay Lokhande. Investigators claim that P.V. Kulkarni could be one of the key accused of this ring.
According to the CBI investigation, Biology lecturer Manisha Mandhare allegedly introduced Kulkarni to Waghmare. Subsequently, handwritten chemistry questions were allegedly circulated among the aspirants.
The investigation further revealed that the questions were distributed in exchange for money; some of the handwritten papers were subsequently destroyed, and allegations have also surfaced regarding the destruction of several documents following the examination.
It is reported that during the CBI custody hearing, the agency indicated to the court regarding a link involving an internal insider.
According to investigators, the question paper was leaked before the examination, and the answer key had reached some of the accused; furthermore, they are examining whether such rapid circulation of the paper would have been possible without internal access. However, the name of the NTA official in question has not yet been disclosed.
NEET UG 2026, which was cancelled due to a paper leak controversy, will be re-examined on June 21, 2026. Dharmendra Pradhan has stated that plans are underway to conduct the NEET examination in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode starting next year.
