Prof. Sangita Srivastava Reappointed Vice-Chancellor of University of Allahabad for Second Term

Prayagraj: Prof. Sangita Srivastava has been reappointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Allahabad for a second term of five years.

Her fresh tenure took effect from September 16, 2026, and will continue for five years or until she reaches the age of 70, whichever is earlier.

The appointment was made by President of India Droupadi Murmu in her capacity as the Visitor of the University of Allahabad. The appointment order was issued by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, on September 22, 2026.

Second term begins from September 16

Prof. Srivastava will continue to head the central university for another five-year term. Her appointment follows the completion of her earlier tenure as Vice-Chancellor.

The order specifies that her service conditions as Vice-Chancellor will be governed by the provisions of the University of Allahabad Act, along with the university’s statutes and ordinances.

Appointment communicated to University 

The appointment has been formally communicated to the Registrar of the University of Allahabad. Copies of the order have also been circulated to the University Grants Commission, the Association of Indian Universities and the President’s Secretariat, among other concerned offices.

The communication also directs the relevant administrative authorities to take note of the appointment.

Prof. Sangita Srivastava to continue university leadership 

With the renewed appointment, Prof. Srivastava will continue her leadership of the University of Allahabad for a further term. Her second tenure is effective from September 16, 2026, subject to the five-year or age-70 condition specified in the appointment order.

The University of Allahabad is a central university located in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, and its Vice-Chancellor is responsible for the institution’s academic and administrative leadership.
