Major Plan to Accept MHT-CET Scores: BBA, BCA, and BMS Admissions in Maharashtra Could Become Easier

The possibility of a major transformation in higher education has emerged in Maharashtra. The state's Department of Higher and Technical Education is observing a policy change that would allow admission into BBA, BCA, and BMS courses based on MHT-CET scores. If this proposal is implemented, students will have the opportunity to secure admission to these professional courses based on their MHT-CET scores, without the need to sit for separate entrance examinations.

Currently, many students struggle to cope with the pressure of appearing for multiple entrance exams. Conversely, many colleges often find themselves with vacant seats. In my opinion, if it becomes possible to gain admission to multiple courses using the score from a single examination, it would not only prove advantageous for students but also boost admission rates for colleges.

Under the range of this policy, programs such as BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration), BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications), and BMS (Bachelor of Management Studies) may be included. These three courses are currently highly popular among students. According to government sources, consideration is being given to utilising MHT-CET scores for the admission process into BBA, BCA, and BMS programs. In other words, candidates who have appeared for the MHT-CET examination will also be eligible to apply for these courses.

Previously, the said courses were regarded as professional courses, and admission was conducted through a separate CET examination. Consequently, students were required to sit for a distinct exam, and the entire admission process became time-consuming. There are several major reasons behind this change: seats often remained vacant in many colleges, the admission process faced delays, student participation declined, and the pressure associated with taking multiple entrance exams enhanced. In my opinion, these were genuine issues that required a resolution.

It is reported that a formal Government Resolution (GR) regarding this matter may be issued very soon. This directive will clearly outline the entire admission framework. If this rule is executed, students will gain multiple opportunities through a single examination; furthermore, it will save time, reduce the number of separate entrance tests, expedite the admission process, and simplify the application procedure for their preferred colleges.

This could prove to be a significant source of relief, particularly for students after completing Class 12. This policy may also prove beneficial for the colleges themselves, as it is expected to reduce the number of vacant seats, boost admission figures, facilitate the timely commencement of academic sessions, and minimise administrative complexities.
