MHT CET 2026 Result to be Declared Soon; How is the Percentile Score Calculated?

The wait for lakhs of students in Maharashtra is about to end. The results for the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (MHT CET) 2026 may be declared very soon. Once the results are released, candidates will be able to download their scorecards from the official website.

Admission to Engineering, Technology, Planning, Pharmacy, and Integrated Master of Engineering and Technology courses for the 2026-27 academic year will be resolved based on these exam results. Therefore, it is crucial to understand how the percentile score is calculated and how the final score is determined before the results are announced.

The Maharashtra State CET Cell is expected to release the MHT CET 2026 results soon. Once the results are declared, candidates will be able to log in using their Registration ID, download their scorecard using their password, view their percentile score, and save the scorecard for future admission processes.

This year, the MHT CET examination was conducted in two separate groups. The exam for the PCM group (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) was held from April 11 to April 20, 2026, while the exam for the PCB group (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) took place from April 21 to April 26, 2026. The examinations were conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode at various centres across the state.

What is a Percentile Score?

Many students believe that a percentile score and a percentage are the same thing. In reality, they are not. A percentile score indicates a candidate's standing relative to other candidates in their specific shift. In other words, it is a comparative scoring method that ensures fair evaluation among candidates across different shifts.

How is the Percentile Score Calculated?

According to the official MHT CET rules, the percentile score is calculated based on the candidate's raw marks. Since the examination is conducted over multiple days and the difficulty level of the question papers may vary slightly across different shifts, raw marks are converted into percentile scores to ensure fair evaluation for all candidates.

There is a significant advantage for students who appear for both attempts of the MHT CET 2026 examination (whether PCM or PCB). The State CET Cell has announced that the higher of the two total percentile scores will be calculated for the admission process; in other words, students will benefit from their best performance.

According to government guidelines, the 'Best Score' will be determined only based on the Total Percentile; it will not be calculated using subject-wise percentiles. In other words, a new score will not be created by combining the Mathematics score from one attempt with the Physics score from another. Only the highest Total Percentile Score will be calculated.

Why are MHT CET Scores Important?

The admission process for various professional courses in Maharashtra is conducted based on MHT CET scores. These include Engineering, Technology, Pharmacy, Planning, and Integrated M.Tech courses. Therefore, achieving a high percentile score increases a student's chances of securing admission to their preferred college.

I am writing about this topic because many students remain confused about the differences between raw marks, percentile scores, and final scores. Since the MHT CET is conducted over multiple shifts, it is not possible to prepare a merit list based only on the marks obtained; this is why the percentile score method is used. Having a clear understanding of this method before the results are declared will enable students to better understand their prospects.
