The National Statistical Office (NSO) and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) have jointly released the Monthly Bulletin for the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) for April 2026, presenting key statistics regarding the country's employment and unemployment situation. According to this report, the country's overall Unemployment Rate remained nearly stable at 5.2 per cent in April 2026.

In terms of regional breakdown, the Rural Female LFPR was 38.2%, while the Urban Female LFPR was 25.0%. However, the report indicates that female workforce participation in urban areas remains relatively stable.

In April 2026, the Overall WPR stood at 52.2%, the Rural WPR at 54.9%, and the Urban WPR at 46.8%. A particularly noteworthy point is that the Urban WPR has remained unchanged at 46.8%, just as it was in March.
According to the PLFS bulletin, the country's overall unemployment rate (UR) stood at 5.2 per cent in April 2026, whereas in March 2026, this rate was 5.1 per cent. In terms of area-wise breakdown (April to March), the rural UR rose to 4.6% from 4.3%, while the urban UR declined to 6.6% from 6.8%. This indicates that the unemployment rate in urban areas remains comparatively higher.
The report also presents unemployment data for men and women separately. The male unemployment rate stood at 5.0% in March 2026 and 5.1% in April 2026. However, urban male unemployment declined slightly to 5.9%.
On the other hand, the female unemployment rate was 5.3% in March 2026 and 5.4% in April 2026. Nevertheless, the urban female unemployment rate dropped from 9.0% to 8.5%, reportedly its lowest level since April 2025.
