UNESCO is Searching for the Views of Young Students Worldwide: What Will Education Look Like After 2030?

Today's education system is no longer controlled only by examination scores or academic degrees. Issues such as technology, climate change, employment, mental health, and social equity have now become deeply linked with education.

For this very reason, UNESCO has sought the perspectives of young people and students worldwide through its "Education Beyond 2030" plan. Through a global survey and various consultative meetings, the thoughts and ideas of young people are being gathered regarding what the education system of the future should look like.

I believe this plan is of main importance, as future education policies will have their most deep impact on today's students and the younger generation. Yet, all too often, their voices do not receive the due weight they deserve during policy-making discussions.

UNESCO now aims to bring about a change in exactly this regard. A new educational framework for the post-2030 era can be fake by drawing upon the experiences, needs, and aspirations of young people across the globe.

Today's students will be the driving force behind the future workforce, society, and economy. Therefore, it is crucial to understand their firsthand experiences and expectations regarding changes to the education system.

Many young people feel that the current education system still does not place sufficient emphasis on real-world skills, technological literacy, mental health awareness, and creativity. UNESCO is seeking direct feedback on these very issues.

This global survey primarily shows three key areas, in particular:

1. Young People's Vision for the Future
2. What Young People Are Prepared to Do for Change
3. What Changes Are Needed in the Education System

UNESCO has announced that this global survey will remain open until September 20, 2026. Young people from various parts of the world will be able to participate in it online.

This global consultation process has been launched as part of UNESCO’s SDG 4 Education 2030 initiative. Its primary objective is to look for direct input from young people regarding the future of education globally beyond the year 2030.

Students, youth organisations, and the younger generation from various countries across the world have been invited to participate in this initiative. UNESCO aims to ensure that the voices of young people are more clearly heard in the formulation of future education policies.
