Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Resigns: An Emotional Letter to the Youth

New Delhi: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned from his post after writing an emotional letter addressed to the nation's youth and students. Sharing this open letter on social media, he confirmed that he had submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the letter, showing his experience spanning over four decades during which he has been involved with students, teachers, and education reform, he said that a strong and inclusive education system forms the very foundation of a strong nation. He also expressed his deep respect for the role and aspirations of the younger generation in nation-building.

Regarding the recent NEET-UG examination, Dharmendra Pradhan said that upon the emergence of irregularities regarding the exam held on May 3, 2026, the Government of India took swift action to cancel the test and announce a date for a re-examination. Additionally, a decision was made to conduct the exam in CBT (Computer-based Test) mode starting next year.

He noted that a 'Whole of Government' approach was adopted, keeping in mind the interests of over 20 lakh candidates, and through the collective efforts of all stakeholders, the re-examination was successfully conducted on June 21, 2026. Many meritorious students from underprivileged backgrounds achieved success in the results published on July 16.

However, in the letter, he expressed regret that certain individuals holding responsible positions attempted to mislead students during this entire process, an act that caused him deep distress. He is deeply pained by the events of the past ten days. He made it clear that this is not a matter of personal prestige for him; rather, his true resolve is to safeguard the future of the youth.

He submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister with the aim of avoiding anti-state forces from using the situation to spread confusion, and to ensure that the country's youth and students can focus on their studies without becoming engaged in legal complications.

At the end of the letter, he expressed his sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his guidance and support. He also thanked his cabinet colleagues, as well as various administrative officials and staff members.

Bringing the blessings of Lord Jagannath, Dharmendra Pradhan stated that he would continue to dedicate himself to the welfare of Mother India, the people of Odisha, and the youth of the country in the future.
